Defence Day – Our Pride

6th of September is celebrated each year as the Defence Day of Pakistan. This day is celebrated to commemorate the memory of Pakistan’s successful defence against a hostile neighbour which waged war against Pakistan. On September 6, 1965, Indian army crossed the international borders of Pakistan without a formal declaration of War and launched a three-pronged offensive against Lahore, Sialkot and Rajasthan. This action of India, which claims to be the largest democracy in the World, was in utter violation of International law, charter of the United Nations and norms of civilized behavior among states. Indian’s attack against Lahore was held and beaten back with heavy losses to the attackers.

The Pakistan Army units defending on the ground, supported by the Pakistan Air Force were able to blunt the Indian offensive. Many soldiers laid down their lives. At last on the 6th of September, this war ended with the support of United Nations (UN).

To pay tribute to those who sacrificed their lives for Pakistan, every year the 6th day the month of September starts with special prayers for the peace and prosperity of Pakistan. The President and Prime Minister give an address. Pakistani Army displays their latest strength used by different units of the armed forces. These shows are also telecasted on different TV channels. National songs and special documentaries about 6th September 1965 are also made and telecasted.

Zaitoon on this day pays tribute to all who have sacrificed for this nation and country. We should all pray for the safety and solidarity of Pakistan.
