Residents of all housing societies post Shahkam Chowk towards New Lahore City were facing one common problem i.e. traffic congestion on Shahkam Chowk. – due to a bottle neck in Shahkam Chowk. Fortunately, in February 2021, Chief Minister Punjab laid down the foundation stone of the signal-free Shahkam Chowk flyover project valuing Rs.4.23 billion to ease the movement of 1.25 lakh vehicles daily. This 606 meters long, two-sided bridge with each side having three lanes project will be completed in the next 6-8 months. Under this project, a 6-kilometre-long defense road will also be dualized from labour colony to Multan Road along with the construction of 2 small bridges at the Hydiara Drain and canal.
The main reason for speedy work of Shahkam Choke is regular-cum-rigorous follow up. Recently, Ahmed Aziz Tarar, Director General of Lahore Development Authority (LDA), paid a surprise visit to Shahkam Flyover. The Director General expressed satisfaction over the pace of ongoing development work on Shahkam Flyover. Chief Engineer LDA (II) Mazhar Hussain Khan briefed the Director General on development works. “The pace of development work should be further accelerated,” Director General added.
Completion of the project will enable uninterrupted flow of millions of vehicles daily and save crores of rupees in fuel. It is the high hope that the project will benefit traffic flow on Canal Road, Multan Road, Defense Road and southern part of Lahore. Moreover, Shahkam Chowk Flyover Development will facilitate the residents of housing societies and investors. Property prices will start increasing with the ongoing development of this project. However, once the development work completes, the property prices especially in New Lahore City and Zaitoon City will double keeping in mind that the travel time from Shahkam Chowk to New Lahore City will be 5 minutes and the travel time from Shahkam Chowk till Zaitoon City will be 10 minutes. This coupled with the fact that the Main Canal Bank Road from Sundar Raiwid Road till Zaitoon City is also under construction and Asphalt work has started on that. This means that all Zaitoon Customers will gain a lot on their investments. In short, if you invest today, you can realize huge investment gains with the progressing development of Shahkam Flyover and adjoining works in that area. So, this is the right time to invest your money in the affordable plots of New Lahore City and Zaitoon City to make maximum out of them in the near future.
